Worldwide WordPress Security Admin Attacks: Secure Your Blogs Now

WordPress Security is always an important part of running your blog, but right now it is even more important than ever.  There is a severe Worldwide Attack going on against all WordPress Installations and it is getting more and more intense.  It is very important to understand that this is happening to everyone who is using WordPress for their websites (which is 60-70% of all sites on the web). The Attack The details of the attack has been covered far and wide. Hostgator was one of the first big names to break the news about the attack with their Global WordPress Brute Force Flood post. The WordPress security team at Sucuri has as series of blog posts about the topic covering how to protect your site, the reality of the attacks, and the consequences of such attacks. Security blog Krebs on Security has a good post covering the topic in depth. The short and simple explanation of what is happening is that one or more illegal botnets (a network of hundreds, thousands, or millions of compromised computers that are being exploited to perform attacks, send spam, etc) are being used to brute-force attack WordPress sites. The goal of a brute force attack is to try as many username and password combinations as possible in order to find valid login credentials. It’s as if someone was trying to guess the combination on a combination lock, but rather than being limited to a single guess every few seconds, they could make hundreds or thousands of guesses a second while never getting tired. The Goal As described above, one or more botnets are being used to perform these attacks. While the actual goal of these attacks is...

Upgrade Alert: FB Member Lock is Now Social Member Lock!

We just released a new update for our FB Member Lock plugin.  We have incorporated the use of both Google Plus and LinkedIn into the plugin.  Now, along with the Facebook Connect features of the plugin you can now connect new members on your WordPress blog with both of these other Social Networks as well.  This was a high demand set of features and we have listed to what you wanted from the plugin.  Now you have it. Because of this change, we are now changing the name of the Plugin from FB Member Lock to Social Member Lock.  Same Plugin, just new and very powerful features. In case you are are new or just unfamiliar with what Social Member Lock does, allow me to give you a brief overview.  Social Member Lock will allow you to create Socially Connected Memberships on your blog using Facebook, Google Plus, and LinkedIn Connect.  Much more than a Content Locker like the WP Social Traffic Blaster, SML allows you to use any Content on your site as a way to convert Visitors into “Members” while simultaneously adding them to Your Mailing List.  You can use Multiple Pages of Content just like any Member Area you would create with any membership plugin or you can use small slices of content like a Video, Download, or other select content from inside a single page using SML shortcodes.  There is really no limit to what you can do with it. I personally like to call it the only plugin which allows you to turn any content, page, post, or custom post type into a Squeeze...

WPSocial.com Gets a Facelift. Check Out the New Digs!

In our quest to make the user experience at WP Social better and more professional, we made quite a few changes to the layout and design of the site.  You spoke and we listened.  From tons of Customer Feedback requests we implemented a series of changes which are all meant to make WP Social better for the casual visitor, new customers, and current product owners alike. We have completely redesigned WPSocial.com with a new Theme and a new shopping cart.  Both are from WooThemes.  We are now using the SuperStore Theme and we are using WooCommerce 2.0 for our Shopping Cart.  The integration we already have with the Social Review Engine and WooCommerce made it a no brainer to add and the integration of WooCommerce with the Superstore Theme made it a match made in heaven.  We have another upcoming project site and we plan on using this combination again because it simply works well. The Superstore Theme allows us to really put everything happening at WPSocial.com front and center, right on the Home Page.  It also allows us to make Navigating and finding everything you need here a lot easier as well.  One of the things we love about it is the ability to allow Customers to login to your Account Dashboard at the top of every page on the site.  You can also change your password there as well.  You still will need to manage your Personal Profile through the links in the Member Dashboard, but other than that, this new feature has made accessing your account a lot easier than before.  *The Edit Address button in...

Major New Social Review Engine Update and Upcoming Changes

A New Social Review Engine Update was uploaded today and you should see it in your WordPress Updates list.  Be aware though, it will look drastically different on your WordPress blogs and this is a good thing.  You see, we took the bland look of the Review Submission Form and we made it “Social” as it is supposed to be.  This new look is coupled with some great functionality which will help increase the number of Reviews you receive on your site due to ease of use and the Trust factor which we have increased with this update as well. Take a look at the New Submission Form: Don’t worry, the functionality hasn’t changed at all.  You can still pick and choose what Social Services you want to use and the order the Social Icons are listed in.  You can also decide if you want to allow WordPress Submissions (which is what the Name and Email form submission in the picture above is for). Dynamic Presentation Now, this form presents itself Dynamically.  You have to see it for yourself to understand.  When you see it at first you might say, “I think there is something wrong with my installation”.  No, you see, the form is dynamic which means it doesn’t display all its options until a Star Rating is chosen and the Reviewer starts to write the Review.  Once these 2 things happen, the Social Icons and Name form field will appear.  In fact, the email field shown in the picture above won’t even display until a Reviewer types in their Name in the Name field.  The best way...

SEO Booster, Social Review Engine, and Social Review Theme Updates Available Now

Daniel has just finished the latest updates to the SEO Booster, Social Review Engine, and the Social Review Theme. We fixed some small bugs and also added some great new features in some cases. For the SEO Booster, this is was a small fix for the Image Upload function for the individual settings for Open Graph, Google Plus, and Twitter. It is now working just fine for those of you who had issues with it. For the Social Review Engine, a few small bugs were fixed, but we also added some great features. We now have an Editor Ratings Shortcode which allows you to place the Editor Ratings wherever you want in your Posts and Pages. We also added a date formatting option for those of you who wanted to be able to customize this feature. For the Social Review Theme, we added several major features which have been requested by users. You now can add your entire Blog as a Tab inside Facebook. While the Fan Page Engine allows you to create targeted pages, this feature will simply add your blog to Facebook where it can be browsed just like as if visitors were on your main site. For Business Users, we added the ability to add a Phone Number or Custom Text to the Header. Another major feature request was to be able to add Video to the Home Page Slider. This has now been added as well. You can now also use Custom CSS on the theme to format it any way you want. Plus, you can now add your Social Icons to the Mobile Versions...
